Veer not Winning Bollywood Box Office War - Veer Review

In a scene from the film, Salman Khan fractures his leg and limps almost for one full reel. But in real life, it seems like Veer Salman ne apne hi paav par kulhadi maar lee (hit the axe on his own leg). The average story he pens doesn’t do justice to the immense intensity he adds to his performance. So Salman is marred and let down by his own self.

Veer opens in 1862 though it comes close to the masala magnum opus flicks of the 80s. The story is loosely reminiscent of Manmohan Desai’s Mard (1985) while the setting and treatment are derived from same director’s Dharam Veer (1977).
As the British enslave India with their devious Divide and Rule policy, kings and nawabs fall to their guile and cunning, and entrust their precious kingdom to the foreigners.

Except for the brave Pindaris, who prefer death to dishonor and will fight to their last breath to save their land…their mother.

The bravest, the toughest, the strongest of the Pindaris is Veer (Salman Khan). As Veer takes on the might of the British Empire, he also has to fight the conniving King of Madavgarh (Jackie Shroff) as well his own jealous tribesmen.

But then the stakes are high…

At stake is his love for princess Yashodhara (Zarine Khan), daughter of his sworn enemy…

At stake is his thirst to avenge his father’s (Mithun Chakravarthy) dishonour…

At stake is his very existence itself….

Cannons roar, swords clash in fierce battle, the dead pile up… And when the dust settles down on the blood soaked land…one valiant warrior stands head and shoulders above them all – Veer!

Salman Khan gives a powerful performance in real sense. He is so prominent in the film that not even his brother Sohail Khan gets one consolation scene. Mithun Chakravarthy is the only one who stands on his own other than Salman Khan. Zarine Khan is a replica of Katrina Kaif and using the same dubbing artist adds to the analogy. Lisa Lazarus is absolutely wasted in a 2 scene role. Jackie Shroff is repetitive in his villainous act.

You have to be a brave heart to watch Veer.

Seems like the Bollywood Fever is just on its way to sweep away Hollywood this time. JAMES Bond could have a Bollywood-style makeover if a billion-dollar movie deal gets the go ahead.
According to a Daily Star, A Popular News Agency based in UK,  MagaMetro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which owns the 007 franchise, is in financial turmoil and is set to be bailed out by Indian movie giants Reliance Big Pictures.

Reliance Big Pictures is a company owned by Anil Ambani who wants to snap up MGM for a knockdown price of about $1.5billion. Sources close to the tycoon reckon he wants to buy MGM to help his bid to become the world’s most powerful movie mogul.
Anil Ambani already owns a stake in Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks studio and has struck deals with Brad Pitt, George Clooney,Jim Carrey and Julia Roberts to develop their films.
If the deal goes ahead, Ambani will gain the rights to the Bond movies, which could see an Indian flavour in future 007 adventures. A source said: “Anil is desperate to become the biggest mover and shaker in world movies and buying MGM is central to that plan.”

Salman, Shahrukh Stops “Tu Tu Mein Me” but Start Your Are Great or Well in 2010

According to the latest Bollywood news, with the release of Salman’s period film ‘Veer’ just around the corner, the hunk of an actor is on a goodwill hunting as the star is indulging in garnering social niceties with his long time rival Shah Rukh Khan. News has it that when Salman saw the rushes of SRK’s ‘My Name Is Khan’, the temperamental star called up Karan Johar and congratulated him.

Incidentally, during a recent awards function, SRK praised ‘Veer’ and said that it is one of the movies he is looking forward to watch in the year. Talking to a news daily, a close source said, “Salman was the first to extend the olive branch by calling Karan after watching the promos of ‘My Name Is Khan’ and SRK returned it by praising ‘Veer’.

They had both come face to face for the first time after the ‘3 Idiots’ premiere.”
Meanwhile, when enquired Karan Johar, the director confirmed the news and said, “Yes, Salman did call to say he loved the promos and the look of the film. I appreciate the feedback. It was very gracious of him. I have worked Salman in my first film and have a great amount of respect for him and his family.

Veer A 2010 Gift - Bollywood Big Block Buster By Anil Sharma

Firstly, a very happy new year to all of you. It’s been a while since I blogged last, been busy wrapping up dubbing and getting into the promotions of Veer. January is here and the countdown begins for Veer’s release. Gearing up for the release with a busy calendar coming up

I’ve been telling you all so much about Veer and that it’s about a brave tribal warrior group called Pindari but who were the Pindaris? Did they really exist? So, today’s blog is a little about the Pindaris…

Well yes, the Pindaris did exist. They were a tribe of fearless warriors of the 19th century when the British ruled India. They were strong, brave and who preferred death to dishonor and fought till their last breath to save their land. These brave rebellions fought against the British when all others couldn’t. They were strong & amazing but little spoken about.

I came to know about this tribe through one of my dad’s dear friends Jai Singh Kalewar who was a Pindari who has passed away. Through him I came to know about this heroic group of people who can be compared to the Russian Cossacks. I play
I was so keen to portray this tribe that I told Tinu, our action director, that I wanted to learn the specialized technique of fighting from a horseback like a true Pindari. I’ve tried my best to do justice to the character of a Pindari warrior and hope you guys enjoy it!
